Team Bio: A mere 365 days ago, we cockwalked our way into the epicenter of poultry pash to revel in one of the greatest tournaments around, with but one proclamation on our lipless beaks: Chicks Dig Big Wattles. Of course, you and I both know this to be gospel, the fact undisputable in its accuracy, enhanced by its brevity. But magnified by our audacity? Nay! Anything above a whisper is to denigrate this tenet, a truth about which we now know. In our youthful exuberance, our brash foolhardiness, we thought that scoring grade A hen was all that mattered, taking for granted the one reason that allowed us to cultivate such magnificent, luxurious, and enviable wattles, swollen like the full moon over fenceless fields. wattles, if I may, that are akin to an aging wine. wattles as red as they are girthful, which is to say...very. So this year, with the wisdom of experience on our side we hope to return to Versailles with a new message: FREE RANGE OR DIE! Too long have our oppressed brethren spent their days literally cooped up in wretched, doomed captivity. Too long have our bipedal tormentors witheld the warmth and light of the sun, the fresh air, the liberation of the outdoors in exchange for the darkness, the dankness, the roofed cesspool to which we are unjustly confined. So we take to Versailles with this message, this declaration of independence. And may God have mercy on any bird or beast that dare stand against us in opposition, for we will not. We will fight to carry the word as long as there is breath within our tender, juicy breast. FREE RANGE OR DIE!
Team History: After an incredible experience at our first Poultry Days last year as Chicks Dig Big Wattles, we are hoping to return to Versailles once again, but with a new name: FREE RANGE OR DIE! Currently in our second year, our team is made up of current and former players from Tufts and Duke. This union arose when several Duke players moved up to Boston post-graduation and integrated themselves into the local scene. Our two groups first came together as a pickup team for Mardi Gras 2009 and have attending pickup tournaments ever since, converging from locations around the country. We are twice Mardi Gras semifinalists, and had a competitive first Poultry Days showing and are greatly looking forward to returning to Versailles. In addition to our college experience, our roster draws on players from various club teams such as Slow White, Chain, Quiet Coyote, Sons of Liberty, Olio, Ballometrics, Flight and Hatch.
